About Sameep Vishwakarma

Sameep Vishwakarma, a skilled artisan hailing from the enchanting landscapes of Bastar, Chhattisgarh, has been honing his craft in Bastar Iron Craft for the past 18 years, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather before him. Despite completing his schooling up to the 12th grade, Sameep pursued a course in design at the Indian Institute of Craft and Design in Jaipur, Rajasthan, further enriching his artistic prowess. His dedication and talent have garnered him prestigious accolades, including the Chhattisgarh State Award in 2022, and have led him to participate in numerous exhibitions across the country, from Delhi's Pragati Maidan to Hyderabad's GI Festival and beyond.

Specializing in Bastar Iron Craft, Sameep's creations exemplify the rich tribal heritage of the region, featuring an array of meticulously crafted items such as diyas, furniture, candle stands, and wall hangings, among others. While the demand for traditional crafts has evolved over the generations, Sameep continues to innovate, diversifying his offerings and even exploring other craft forms such as wooden craft and dokra metal. Despite facing challenges such as fluctuating sales and increasing competition, Sameep remains committed to preserving and promoting the rich cultural legacy of Bastar. With dreams of establishing his own company to further showcase Bastar's crafts and support local artisans, Sameep's vision extends beyond his individual artistry, aiming to create sustainable opportunities for future generations of artists.
