About the Artwork +
This stunning Madhubani painting by Priti Karn vividly depicts the sacred and significant event of the Ram-Sita Swayamvar, an iconic scene from the Ramayana. True to the Madhubani art tradition, the painting uses intricate patterns, vibrant colors, and detailed line work to portray Lord Rama and Goddess Sita in their divine forms. On the left, Lord Rama stands with a calm yet majestic demeanor, adorned with traditional attire in bright hues of red, blue, and green, embellished with fine geometric and floral patterns. His skin is painted in a symbolic yellow, representing divinity and purity, and his large expressive eyes, a hallmark of Madhubani art, convey tranquility. In his hand, he holds the mighty bow, symbolizing his victory in breaking the bow of Lord Shiva to win Sita's hand in marriage. Opposite him stands Goddess Sita, depicted gracefully with intricate jewelry, traditional attire in red and green shades, and henna-adorned hands holding the garland. Her head is delicately covered with a beautifully designed veil, emphasizing her modesty and elegance. Both figures stand against a detailed background of arches and hanging floral garlands, showcasing symmetry and meticulous detailing, which signify celebration and divine harmony. The border features vibrant red and blue flowers with green leaves, perfectly framing the central imagery. The checker-patterned flooring beneath the divine couple further enhances the depth of the artwork. Priti Karn’s mastery is evident in every minute detail, creating a visual narrative that exudes devotion, cultural heritage, and artistic finesse, celebrating the timeless love and divine union of Ram and Sita.
