About the Artwork +

The Blue Pottery Plate by Gopal Lal Kharol is a mesmerizing example of artisanal craftsmanship and traditional aesthetics. This exquisite plate showcases a delicate balance of artistry and functionality that seamlessly blends form and purpose.

The plate predominantly exhibits a vibrant turquoise-blue base, a characteristic hue synonymous with the craft of Blue Pottery. At its heart, intricate floral motifs of pure white elegance unfurl, echoing the timeless beauty of nature. These motifs are meticulously hand-painted, with each petal and leaf carefully rendered, highlighting the artist's attention to detail and dedication to precision. The central design features a composition of blooming flowers intertwined with tendrils and leaves, creating an engaging visual rhythm. Bordering this central motif is a subtle yet effective demarcation, a thin blue line that serves as a boundary, focusing the viewer's attention inward. Encircling the plate's edge is a repeating pattern of leaf designs, providing a harmonious frame for the central floral motif.

The blue pottery plate crafted by Gopal Lal Kharol exemplifies traditional artistry and exquisite craftsmanship. This plate is a vibrant showcase of the celebrated Blue Pottery technique, which has its origins in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The deep cobalt blue base serves as a stunning backdrop for the intricate white floral motifs that gracefully adorn the surface. The plate features an intricate and harmonious design, where each floral pattern seems meticulously hand-drawn. The central part of the plate showcases a symmetrical burst of flowers, radiating outward in delicate vines that spread to the edges. The flowers, characterized by their delicate petals and fine detailing, appear almost like delicate lace against the rich blue. Each bloom is unique, yet together they form a cohesive and balanced pattern.

Around the rim of the plate, a geometric border of pointed white shapes adds an elegant frame to the floral design, offering a contrast that enhances the central pattern’s complexity. This border not only contains the floral design but also accentuates the circular form of the plate, drawing the viewer’s eye towards the center. The plate's glossy finish, achieved through a unique glazing process, not only highlights the vibrant hues but also provides a protective layer, ensuring the longevity of the artwork. This particular piece stands as a testament to Gopal Lal Kharol's mastery of blue pottery, reflecting both traditional techniques and individual artistic expression.

In essence, this blue pottery plate is not just a utilitarian object but a piece of art that embodies cultural heritage, masterful technique, and timeless beauty. It would serve as a remarkable centerpiece in any collection, radiating elegance and a deep appreciation for traditional craftsmanship.

Blue Pottery

Blue Pottery is a craft widely practiced in the Jaipur region of India. It is characterized by its intricate designs and vibrant blue color, with motifs inspired by nature, and Islamic and Mughal art. The products like pots, vases, plates, and tiles were typically produced earlier but now it has evolved to include functional objects such as pen holders, soap dishes trinket boxes, and candle stands among others. History and Tradition Blue Pottery has a history steeped in cultural exchange and craftsmanship. Believed to have been introduced to India by Persian artisans in the 14th century, it gradually evolved into a distinct art form. Excavations at the Purana Qila have revealed glazed ware of the Sultanate period. Initially practiced in Delhi, it later spread to other regions such as Jaipur, and Rajasthan, where it gained prominence and became synonymous with the region's cultural identity. Over the years the craft was kept alive by Her Highness Gayatri Devi who widely promoted Blue Pottery. Technique Blue Pottery is distinguished by its unique technique, which involves a fusion of quartz, powdered glass, multani mitti (Fuller's earth), borax, and sodium sulfate. It is the only pottery technique in the world where clay is not used in the process. Artisans meticulously shape the pottery by hand or on a potter's wheel, allowing them to create various forms such as vases, bowls, plates, and tiles. The pottery is then sun-dried, glazed, and low-fired, resulting in its distinctive blue hues. FAQs Is Blue Pottery durable? Yes, Blue Pottery is relatively durable but can be fragile due to the materials used. It is best suited for decorative purposes and should be handled with care. While it is not as robust as traditional clay pottery, with proper care, Blue Pottery items can last a long time. Can Blue Pottery be customized? Yes, MeMeraki offers customization services for Blue Pottery, allowing customers to choose specific designs, colors, and sizes according to their preferences. Custom Blue Pottery items make for unique, personalized gifts and can be tailored to suit specific decor styles. What makes Blue Pottery unique? Blue Pottery is unique due to its vibrant colors, intricate hand-painted designs, and the absence of clay in its composition. The use of natural minerals for coloring and the traditional glazing technique also set it apart from other forms of pottery. Each piece of Blue Pottery is handmade, making every item distinct and a work of art in its own right.
