About the Artwork +
Manoranjan Chitrakar portrays the divine presence of Goddess Durga, epitomizing her fierce form as she vanquishes the demon Mahishasura, surrounded by an array of other deities. At the very centre of the canvas, Goddess Durga stands resplendent in a vibrant red saree. She holds her mighty trident, a symbol of her strength and courage. In a powerful stance, she pierces the heart of the vanquished Mahishasura, whose defeated form lies at her feet. Her lion, the embodiment of regal grace and fierce protection, stands by her side, exuding a sense of majesty. The backdrop, painted in shades of blue, creates a striking contrast to Goddess Durga's vivid presence. It symbolises the cosmic expanse against which this divine battle is waged, emphasising the transcendent nature of this epic moment. Surrounding Goddess Durga in separate sections are other deities who bear witness to her valor. Saraswathi, the goddess of wisdom and knowledge, sits with her veena, symbolising art and learning. Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, is adorned in jewels, radiating her benevolence. Lord Ganesh, the remover of obstacles, stands with his elephant head, and Karthikeyan, the warrior god, stands with his bow and arrow. They represent the collective strength of the divine realm. The artwork encompasses the rich tapestry of Hindu mythology and showcases the collective presence of deities, reminding us of the enduring strength and unity within the divine pantheon.
