About the Artwork +

In Manoj Tekam's traditional Gond painting, the serene beauty of nature unfolds as oranges hang ripe on the trees, while owls perch gracefully on the sturdy tree trunk. Set against a backdrop of black and white, the oranges and owls come to life with meticulous details, showcasing Tekam's mastery of the Gond artform. The significance of nature in Gond art is profound, with each element symbolizing the interconnectedness between humans and the natural world. The oranges represent abundance and vitality, while the wise presence of the owls evokes a sense of wisdom and mysticism, highlighting the spiritual connection that the Gondi people hold with nature.
Tekam's portrayal of oranges on trees and owls on the tree trunk is a captivating interpretation of traditional Gond art. The meticulous details in the painting, from the intricate patterns on the oranges to the feathers of the owls, demonstrate the artist's commitment to preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Gondi tribe. Gond art originated as a form of ritualistic expression among the indigenous Gondi people of central India, with artists using natural materials like charcoal and plant-based pigments to create intricate designs on the walls of their homes and on other surfaces. This art form has evolved over time, with contemporary artists like Manoj Tekam infusing new perspectives and styles while staying true to the essence of Gond art. Through his work, Tekam celebrates the beauty of nature and the enduring connection between humans and their environment, ensuring that the legacy of Gond art continues to thrive for generations to come.
