About the Artwork +
In Poonam Katoch's Kangra painting from the Barahmasa series, the month of Ashwin unfolds with a captivating portrayal of Radha and Krishna adorned in attire reminiscent of the old Mughal era. This artwork beautifully exemplifies Kangra painting, a distinct form of Pahadi miniature art originating from the scenic Kangra Valley in Himachal Pradesh.
The Kangra miniature art style, evident in this piece, seamlessly fuses the essence of Pahadi culture with influences reminiscent of Mughal miniatures. The painting showcases meticulous detailing and refined expressions, drawing parallels with the artistic finesse seen in Mughal miniature traditions.Poonam Katoch employs a palette dominated by cool tone colors, creating a serene ambiance that complements the divine connection between Radha and Krishna. Shades of blues and greens prevail, reflecting the natural beauty of the Kangra region and enhancing the overall tranquility of the scene.
The choice to depict Radha and Krishna in old Mughal attire adds a historical elegance to the painting, showcasing the artist's adept fusion of cultural influences. Intricate designs, characteristic of Kangra miniatures, embellish the clothing and surroundings, contributing to the visual richness of the artwork. This painting from the Barahmasa series not only captures the essence of the Ashwin month but also pays homage to the cultural heritage of Kangra miniature paintings.
