Raja Ravi Varma’s oleograph of Sage Shankaracharya presents a serene and scholarly scene set within the natural surroundings of his ashram. In the center of the composition, Sage Shankaracharya is depicted seated with a red drapery on his head, symbolizing his wisdom and spiritual authority. His posture exudes tranquility and wisdom as he imparts teachings to his shishyas (students), who are seated around him in attentive positions of learning.

The ashram is nestled within a lush forest, with towering trees forming a natural canopy that provides shade and creates a tranquil atmosphere conducive to study and contemplation. In the foreground, a serene lake adorned with blooming lotus flowers and graceful swans reflects the calm and purity of the environment. The lotus flowers symbolize spiritual enlightenment and purity, while the swans represent grace and beauty, enhancing the spiritual ambiance of the ashram.

The composition captures the essence of Guru-Shishya tradition, highlighting the sacred bond between the teacher and students in a setting that harmoniously blends nature’s beauty with the pursuit of knowledge and spiritual wisdom.

This is a limited edition capsule collection of original oleographs/ chromo lithographs from the 1920's and 1930's created at the original Raja Ravi Verma Printing Press. This collection of paintings was originally made by Raja Ravi Verma and artists like CS Ramanujam. The oleographs are embellished with original delicate Japanese paper silk and Zari work in real gold and silver which was done by artists in the same period. These oleopgraphs were created in limited numbers and thus each artwork is limited to only 1 in availability with us. Varma used oleographs on paper, a type of lithography that uses oil paints on paper to make his work available to the masses. He eventually sold the press to one of the Germans. The stone-printing procedure allows exact brushstrokes and patterns to be replicated on a large scale with multitudes of tones and diverse colour palette. The artist signature is on each of the artworks and each artwork will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from MeMeraki.

Each of our artworks are hand painted by master artists across India. We provide an authentication certificate with this artwork signed by the artist.

The sizes mentioned are excluding the borders of the artwork.

Made To Order artworks will take 2-3 weeks to be made and shipped once they are ready. Returns are not applicable on Made To Order artworks.
