About the Artwork +
This kalamkari painting by Harinath N. depicts Santana Lakshmi, one of the eight forms of the Hindu goddess Lakshmi, revered as the goddess of progeny, fertility, and family well-being. In the painting, Santana Lakshmi is seated on a lotus, symbolizing purity and divine birth. She is adorned with elaborate jewelry, including necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and an intricate crown. Her attire is richly detailed with patterns and vibrant colors, primarily in shades of blue and gold. The goddess has multiple arms, holding various items. In her right hand, she holds a sword, representing the power to remove obstacles, and a conch shell, symbolizing the primordial sound of creation. In her left hands, she holds a small child, highlighting her role as the nurturer and protector of progeny, along with items like a lotus bud and possibly a sacred scripture or vessel, symbolizing knowledge and spiritual wealth.
Santana Lakshmi's serene and composed facial expression exudes calmness and benevolence, with large, almond-shaped eyes conveying compassion and wisdom. Her hair is styled elaborately, adding to her divine and majestic appearance. A radiant halo surrounds her head, filled with concentric circles and intricate patterns, emphasizing her divinity. The background is richly decorated with circular motifs and bead-like designs, creating a sense of depth and richness. The dominant colors in the painting are red, blue, gold, and pink, with the red background contrasting beautifully with the blue attire and the pink lotus, creating a vibrant and harmonious palette. Overall, this kalamkari painting by Harinath N. beautifully portrays Santana Lakshmi, combining traditional techniques with a deep sense of spirituality and reverence, making it a remarkable representation of divine grace and artistry.
