About the Artwork +
For these paintings, the pricing includes the teak wood frame.
Raja Ravi Varma’s oleograph presents a divine tableau of Lord Shiva, Parvati, and Ganesha, set against the majestic backdrop of Mount Kailash. This composition masterfully captures the serene yet powerful essence of the divine family in a picturesque setting.
In the foreground of the painting, a majestic bull, Nandi, the vahana (vehicle) of Lord Shiva, sits with a calm and regal demeanor, signifying strength and devotion. The middle plane of the composition is dominated by the figures of Lord Shiva, Parvati, and their son Ganesha. Lord Shiva, the epitome of asceticism and power, is seated at the center. Parvati, the embodiment of beauty and fertility, sits closely beside him, radiating grace and compassion. On the other side of Shiva is Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, depicted with his characteristic elephant head and a gentle, benevolent expression.
Flanking the divine trio on both sides are majestic lions, symbolizing courage and strength, and emphasizing the royalty and power of the divine family. The background is a stunning depiction of Mount Kailash, with its blue and white peaks rising majestically into the sky, adding to the ethereal quality of the scene. Ravi Varma’s use of rich colors and intricate details in this oleograph not only brings the scene to life but also evokes a deep sense of reverence and awe.
This is a limited edition capsule collection of original oleographs/ chromo lithographs from the 1920's and 1930's created at the original Raja Ravi Verma Printing Press. This collection of paintings was originally made by Raja Ravi Verma and artists like CS Ramanujam. The oleographs are embellished with original delicate Japanese paper silk and Zari work in real gold and silver which was done by artists in the same period. These oleopgraphs were created in limited numbers and thus each artwork is limited to only 1 in availability with us. Varma used oleographs on paper, a type of lithography that uses oil paints on paper to make his work available to the masses. He eventually sold the press to one of the Germans. The stone-printing procedure allows exact brushstrokes and patterns to be replicated on a large scale with multitudes of tones and diverse colour palette. The artist signature is on each of the artworks and each artwork will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from MeMeraki.
