About the Artwork +
Sanjay Chittara portrays a rich tapestry of devotion, showcasing the divine presence of four revered goddesses,Durga Mata, Sagat Mata, Meladi Mata, and Bahuchar Mata. Each goddess is a beacon of faith and a symbol of the diverse spiritual traditions that thrive in Gujarat. At the centre of this magnificent artwork stands Durga Mata, the divine warrior goddess known for her unwavering courage and indomitable strength. With multiple arms adorned with weapons and sacred items, she is ready to vanquish evil and protect her devotees. Her presence is a testament to her supremacy in the pantheon of Hindu deities, embodying the eternal fight against darkness. Sagat Mata is a goddess revered for her authority over demonic forces, a fact subtly hinted at by her vahana, the bull. Sagat Mata's presence in the painting reinforces her belief in her divine protection against negativity and malevolence. Meladi Mata holds a special place in the hearts of the Vaghri community in Gujarat, and she is beautifully depicted in this artwork. With vibrant colours and intricate details, the painting captures the essence of devotion and faith that surround her worship. Bahuchar Mata, a divine Hindu deity, is revered by women who seek fertility and by men facing infertility. In the painting, Bahuchar Mata is portrayed with a rooster as her vehicle, symbolising her connection to dawn and the awakening of life. She carries a trident in one hand, signifying her power, and a copy of the Hindu scripture in the other, emphasising her role as a guardian of wisdom and virtue. Each goddess represents a unique facet of faith and serves as a source of solace and strength for their respective devotees.
