About the Artwork +

In Hasir Chitrakar's Santhal Pattachitra, a captivating scene emerges as fishes and musical instruments dance across the canvas with intricate detail. Each fish and instrument is meticulously rendered, their forms alive with muted colors and dynamic patterns that evoke the lively essence of Bengal's cultural heritage. Chitrakar's skillful strokes bring depth and dimension to the composition, capturing the fluidity of movement and the rhythm of life within the painting. The Santhal Pattachitra painting process, deeply ingrained in the region's artistic tradition, reflects Chitrakar's dedication to preserving this ancient art form. The canvas is meticulously prepared with layers of cloth and a mixture of chalk and gum, providing a smooth surface for painting. Hair Ji then employs natural pigments derived from minerals, plants, and flowers to create the hues that adorn the scene. Using fine brushes made from animal hair, he delicately applies the colors, layering them to achieve depth and texture. The result is a mesmerizing work of art that not only celebrates Bengal's rich cultural heritage but also showcases Chitrakar's mastery of the Bengal Pattachitra technique.
