About the Artwork +
In Dilip Chitara's Mata ni Pachedi, the canvas transforms into a vivid portrayal of divine joy as Krishna plays the flute in a grand depiction of Raas Leela. The intricate details come alive in the animated dance of the gopis around Krishna, each figure carefully crafted to capture the essence of the celestial dance. Chitara's masterful strokes convey the dynamic movements, expressions, and vibrant energy of the Raas Leela, immersing the viewer in the spiritual enchantment of this sacred celebration. Meanwhile, the Mata ni Pachedi painting process, deeply rooted in Gujarat's cultural heritage, unfolds as Chitara meticulously prepares the canvas using a mixture of goat milk and gum on cotton fabric. Employing wooden blocks, he intricately hand-draws the divine scene, utilizing natural dyes sourced from plants and minerals. The 'pachad' folding technique enhances the visual richness, allowing colors to seamlessly merge and create a harmonious representation of Krishna's Raas Leela. Dilip Chitara's Mata ni Pachedi not only captures the divine joy of the Raas Leela but also stands as a testament to his dedication to rich cultural storytelling and the exquisite craftsmanship inherent in this revered folk art.
