About the Artwork +
In Uttam Chitrakar's traditional Kalighat painting, the divine figures of Lakshmi and Ganesh are depicted in a scene of serene grace and divine splendor. Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, sits elegantly on her lotus throne, adorned with intricate jewelry that reflects her divine status. Beside her rests Lord Ganesh, the remover of obstacles, seated comfortably on her lap, symbolizing the inseparable bond between mother and son. This portrayal not only captures the timeless essence of Hindu mythology but also reflects the daily worship and reverence accorded to these deities in Indian households, where rituals and prayers to the gods are an integral part of daily life.
Chitrakar's attention to detail is meticulous, with each element of the painting crafted with precision and care. From the delicate features of the divine figures to the intricate designs of their attire and accessories, every aspect is rendered with artistic finesse. The process of creating a Kalighat painting involves traditional methods passed down through generations, with artists using natural dyes and handmade paper to bring their compositions to life. Through his portrayal of Lakshmi and Ganesh, Chitrakar not only celebrates the beauty of Hindu iconography but also invites viewers to connect with the spiritual essence of these revered deities, whose blessings are sought for prosperity, success, and auspicious beginnings in daily life.
