About the Artwork +
Rizwan Khatri's exquisite Rogan artwork unveils a captivating portrayal of a floral Tree of Life, meticulously crafted in vibrant colors that breathe life into the canvas. The intricate details of blooming flowers and intertwining branches create a harmonious symphony of nature's beauty.
Rogan art, a traditional form hailing from Kutch, India, involves a unique technique and medium. The term "Rogan" originates from the Persian word for oil, and indeed, the process revolves around using castor oil as the base. The artist, employing a stylus, skillfully mixes pigments with the oil to create a thick, paste-like paint. Traditionally, Rogan art is passed down through generations within select families, and the process itself is considered a closely guarded secret. The floral Tree of Life, a recurring motif in Rogan art, symbolizes vitality, interconnectedness, and the cyclical nature of existence.
Khatri's rendition pays homage to this ancient craft, infusing contemporary vibrancy into the piece. The mastery in handling the stylus allows for precision in depicting delicate petals, swirling vines, and the tree's majestic form. The choice of vibrant colors not only reflects the artist's creative flair but also echoes the lively spirit of the flora depicted. Rogan, with its rich heritage and meticulous process, elevates this artwork beyond a mere visual spectacle. It becomes a testament to the artist's dedication, the cultural legacy of Kutch, and the timeless beauty of the Tree of Life motif in the world of art.
