About the Artwork +
In Suraj Kumar Sahu's masterful depiction of a rural morning scene through the delicate art of Sikki grass work, a tranquil village tableau unfolds with serene beauty. The canvas of the village awakens with the first light of dawn, as if painting a picturesque narrative of daily life. At the heart of the scene, women gracefully traverse the paths, their sturdy pots balanced atop their heads, destined for the nearby water source. Meanwhile, the livestock, roused from their nocturnal repose, stir and commence their daily rituals. Among them, a lone figure, the bullock cart driver, finds solace beneath the sprawling embrace of a banyan tree, his loyal beasts resting nearby, embodying the symbiotic relationship between man and animal. Scattered across the landscape, modest houses and thatched huts stand as silent witnesses to the passage of time, their simple structures echoing the resilience of village life. As the sun ascends, its golden rays cascade over the tranquil scene, imbuing the surroundings with a warm, ethereal glow. Against this backdrop, the avian residents take flight, their wings carrying them gracefully through the morning sky, adding a touch of animated grace to the tranquil tableau. In Sahu's artistry, the essence of rural existence is captured in all its quiet majesty, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in the timeless charm of village life at daybreak.
