About the Artwork +

This art piece of Lord Hanuman is made by Om Prakash. Lord Hanuman is the monkey god from the Hindu pantheon who appears in the Ramayana as Lord Rama's companion and disciple. The carving is of Lord Hanuman carrying the Sanjeevi mountain to bring the cure for Lakshman. When Lakshaman was shot by Shaktiban, a lethal weapon, whose effect he lay unconscious. To cure Lakshman, Hanuman brings Sushenu rishi from Lanka, who tells Rama that he could only be cured by Sanjeevani buti - a medicinal plant which is believed to bring one from near death back to life. The Physician tells him that the herb is rare and could only be found in the Sanjeevi mountain. Hanuman went in search of the herb, but as he reached the mountain, he was unable to identify the plant. Reminded of the dying state of Lakshman, he lifted the whole mountain in his hand and flew to the battlefield, where Lakshman was treated with medicine.
