About the Artwork +
In Gareeba Singh Tekam's traditional Gond painting, the essence of life and nature converge in a mesmerizing portrayal of the sacred "Tree of Life" emerging from the divine entity, Bada Dev, the god revered by the Gondi tribe. Branches teem with avian life, symbolizing the interconnectedness between earthly beings and the spiritual realm. Beneath this celestial canopy, women gracefully carry pots upon their heads, returning home with offerings from the land. Through vibrant colors and intricate patterns, Tekam captures the profound significance of nature in Gond art, where every element symbolizes a harmonious relationship between humans, animals, and the divine. The meticulous details in the painting not only showcase Tekam's skill but also invite viewers to contemplate the intricate web of life depicted within the artwork.
Gond art traces its origins to the Gondi tribe of central India, where it served as a form of ritualistic expression, often adorning the walls and floors of homes with intricate designs. Using natural materials like charcoal and plant-based pigments, Gond artists crafted elaborate narratives that celebrated the richness of their cultural heritage and the interconnectedness of all living beings.
