About the Artwork +
This magnificent Mata ni Pachedi by Dilip Chitara, painted on a circular brass plate, depicts a sacred double-horned deer, an animal deeply revered in Indian folk traditions for its spiritual and symbolic significance. Executed in the characteristic black-and-white Mata ni Pachedi style, the artwork is beautifully contrasted against a bold red background, representing divine energy and auspiciousness. The double-horned deer adorned with intricate patterns and sacred motifs, stands in an alert and majestic posture, exuding strength and grace. Its elongated, curved horns extend upwards, resembling celestial connections, while its body is draped in ornamental elements, emphasizing purity and devotion. Surrounding the figure are flowing, wave-like patterns, possibly symbolizing wind or divine aura, adding a dynamic movement to the piece. Beneath the deer, delicate floral motifs reinforce the harmonious relationship between nature and spirituality. The border, decorated with geometric chevrons, adds structure to the composition, framing the divine imagery within a sacred space. This work exemplifies the meticulous craftsmanship and traditional storytelling of the Chitara family, who have preserved the sacred Mata ni Pachedi art form for generations. Each stroke in this artwork carries a deeper narrative, often linked to folk deities and mythological tales, serving as a spiritual offering to the goddess Saraswati perhaps. The combination of natural dyes, intricate detailing, and the striking contrast between red, black, and white enhances the visual depth, making this piece not just an artistic marvel but a symbol of divine blessings, protection, and cultural heritage.
