About the Artwork +
This traditional Pichwai painting by master artist Shehzad Ali Sherani exquisitely captures the divine aura of Shrinathji, the revered deity of the Pushti Marg sect, on the occasion of Sharad Poornima. At the heart of the painting stands Shrinathji, adorned in opulent attire, including a Mayur Pankh mukut (peacock feather crown) and a richly patterned kachhani. Flanked by graceful Gopis, their hands clasped as they dance to the cosmic melodies of Krishna's flute, the scene is a reflection of devotion and divine love. One Gopi reaches up to grasp the flowing dupatta of Shrinathji, while the others move in rhythmic harmony beneath the moonlit forest, which casts an ethereal glow upon the entire scene. Celestial beings shower fragrant flowers from the heavens, heightening the sense of divine celebration. In the middle of the composition, the Annakoot festival unfolds with vibrant depictions of devotees offering an abundance of delicacies to Shrinathji, blending seamlessly with the Daan Leela, a key narrative of Krishna’s life. Dancing peacocks add a lively touch to this joyous celebration, while the lower part of the painting presents serene rows of cows and lotus flowers by the Yamuna river, deepening the sense of reverence for Krishna's divine play. Encircling the composition are delicate floral borders with multiple insets that depict Shrinathji’s 24 seasonal festivals (utsavas), encapsulating the timeless beauty and devotion that defines the art of Pichwai. This masterpiece is a tribute to the celebration of love, devotion, and the grandeur of Krishna’s Leela.
