About the Artwork +
This vibrant Jogi Art painting by Govind Bhai Bharthri beautifully captures a community gathering for a Durga Puja ceremony. In the center of the composition is an altar adorned with a fiery representation of Goddess Durga in her traditional form, seated majestically with her multiple arms, each holding symbols of power and protection. She is revered as the divine mother and protector in Hindu culture, and her presence emanates strength and reverence. In front of the altar, offerings are laid out meticulously on red mats—symbolic of the devotion and rituals dedicated to the goddess.
A group of men, dressed in brightly colored traditional attire, are seated in a semicircle around the altar, each deeply engrossed in the prayer. They are positioned with folded hands, expressing their respect and devotion. The elder man leading the ritual is shown holding a trishul, symbolizing Shiva’s power, and lifting his hands in reverence as he chants. The varied expressions on the faces of the worshippers reflect a mix of devotion, hope, and serenity, emphasizing the spiritual essence of the gathering.
The scene includes families too, with a child sleeping peacefully on a mat, embodying the comfort and security that comes from being surrounded by a caring community. Another man holds an infant in his arms, indicating the multigenerational presence and the passing down of traditions. The vibrant colors—turquoise, red, green, and orange—add to the lively yet serene atmosphere, capturing the essence of the celebration. Every detail, from the men’s expressions to the goddess’s altar, showcases the unity and faith of the community. Govind Bhai Bharthri's signature in the corner authenticates this piece as a beautiful representation of cultural and spiritual tradition through the unique style of Jogi Art.
