About the Artwork +
Renowned artist V.M Jijulal's Kerala Mural Painting, "Ananthasayanam," captivates with its divine portrayal of Lord Vishnu in His sleeping form, resting upon the coils of the mighty serpent, Shesha. This artwork encapsulates a profound moment in Hindu mythology when Narayana awakens, and from His belly, a lotus blooms, giving birth to Brahma, the embodiment of intellect and the force that distinguishes the self from all that is not. Jijulal's meticulous craftsmanship within the Kerala Mural tradition brings this narrative to life with a symphony of vivid colors, telling a tale of cosmic significance. The rich palette of ochre, turquoise, and earthy greens dance harmoniously, mirroring the eternal cycle of creation, preservation, and dissolution. Intricate patterns and motifs, characteristic of this art form, adorn the canvas, symbolizing the intricate interplay of cosmic forces. In "Ananthasayanam," Jijulal seamlessly merges artistry and spirituality. This painting isn't just a visual feast; it is a gateway to the metaphysical. It transports the observer to a realm where seeker, seeking, and sought are one—the ultimate realization of Brahman. In its purest form, it signifies that beyond dissolution, there exists only pure consciousness, embodied by Narayana. This piece speaks to the heart of Kerala's artistic tradition, a profound testament to the enduring power of storytelling through art.
