About the Artwork +
The description of Vishat Mata, derived from the Gujarati term 'vis-hath' signifying twenty hands, portrays a unique and intriguing goddess figure known for her distinct characteristics and fierce attributes. Despite her name emphasizing the multitude of hands, artistic depictions often showcase her with six arms, highlighting variations in her representation. Her association with a black buffalo as her mount adds to her enigmatic symbolism, reflecting strength and power. The goddess typically wields swords, a dagger, a bowl of blood, and a trident, symbolizing her formidable nature and her role as a protector against evil forces. The inclusion of a snake in her hair further accentuates her fierceness, underscoring her ability to combat and overcome threats. The legend of Vishat Mata is intertwined with the origin story of the Vaghris, who consider themselves descendants of Lord Vishnu and the goddess, solidifying her divine lineage and protective influence over her devotees.
