About the Artwork +
This beautiful Cheriyal wall plate by Sai Kiran portrays a man and woman collecting mangoes offering viewers a captivating glimpse into the heart of rural India. In this exquisite piece, a rural villager couple is depicted amidst a lush, verdant landscape, engaged in the activity of plucking mangoes. The meticulous detailing of the couple's attire and the intricate patterns adorning the plate showcase the art form's dedication to preserving India's cultural narratives. Each element tells a story, from the couple's labor in the fields to the significance of the mango tree in rural life. The rich color palette, dominated by red, blues, yellow, and greens, pays homage to the age-old, now dying traditions of Cheriyal, where natural dyes sourced from plants and minerals were used to create vibrant hues.
Cheriyal art, a traditional form of scroll painting native to Telangana, is characterized by its vibrant colors, intricate detailing, and depiction of mythological narratives, folk tales, and rural life. This artwork is a masterful blend of storytelling, color harmony, and craftsmanship, inviting admirers to celebrate the timeless beauty of rural life. It transcends its function as a mere wall plate, serving as a window into a rich cultural heritage—a tale of labor, love, and that resonates with viewers on a deeper level.
