About the Artwork +
This Madhubani artwork by Ambika Devi, centrals around a woman's face symbolizing feminine power and beauty. The bright colors and bold strokes used in this painting alleviates the grace, elegance and beauty of the woman's face, embodying feminine divinity. As women play a significant role in painting the Madhubani art and passing it down to future generations, this painting also celebrates the creativity and immense contributions of the women artists of Madhubani art. Covered with intricate geometrical patterns and designs, this painting also features two fishes representing women's deep harmony and connection with nature. Focusing on women empowerment and strength, this painting compares the transformation of fishes - from small, fragile eggs to strong fully developed fishes, - to the personal growth, development and strength of women as through their lives they experience many challenges, joys, sorrows and problems and often emerge strong and resilient in the face of adversities. As fishes also represent the abundance of fertility, depicting both women and fishes on the painting attributes both the women and the fishes as the protector and giver of life on Earth. The blue patterns in the background of the painting represents water which conveys rejuvenations and renewal. SO the woemn next to the water represents a rejuvenation and renewal of her mind, body and spirit as the water also signifies the women's deep connect to her spiritual realm. This painting is a tribute to the women artists, without whose contributions, resilience, hardwork and patience, Madhubani art would not have been as intricate, delightful and complex as it is today.
