About the Artwork +
In this exquisite Kalamkari painting by Harinath Ji, we witness the majestic Matsya Avatar, the Fish Incarnation, of Lord Vishnu. The painting beautifully captures the essence of this divine form. Lord Matsya is portrayed as a magnificent figure with the upper torso of a man and the lower body of a fish. Adorned with four arms, he holds the khartaal, a shankha (conch shell), a gada (mace), and a lotus, symbolizing his divine attributes.
The artwork depicts a significant event from Hindu mythology, where Lord Vishnu in his Matsya Avatar reveals to Manu, the first man, about the impending destruction of the world. Vishnu, in his compassionate nature, guides Manu to gather all the creatures of the world and secure them on a boat specially constructed by the gods. As the cataclysmic deluge approaches, Lord Vishnu manifests as a grand fish with a prominent horn. Manu ties the boat carrying the seven sages to the horn of the divine fish, ensuring their safety and preservation.
Within the painting, we witness Lord Indra and Lord Brahma humbly paying their respects to Lord Vishnu in his Matsya form. Their presence signifies the reverence and recognition of the supreme divinity manifested in Matsya Avatar. Additionally, the artwork captures the powerful scene of Lord Matsya triumphantly slaying the demon Hayagriva, who seeks refuge within a conch shell.
Harinath Ji's artistic mastery shines through in this Kalamkari painting, depicting the intricate details and vibrant colors that bring the Matsya Avatar to life. The artwork serves as a visual ode to the divine incarnation of Lord Vishnu, showcasing his benevolence, protection, and ability to preserve life in times of turmoil.
