About the Artwork +
This exquisite Tanjore painting by R. Jayanthan portrays the divine scene of Ram Darbar with remarkable detail and intricacy. At the center, Lord Rama is seated beside his consort, Sita, both adorned in resplendent royal attire with elaborate jewelry. Their serene expressions radiate peace and divinity, reflecting their divine status in the Ramayana. Lord Rama holds his characteristic bow, symbolizing his role as the protector of dharma. To their left stands Lakshmana, Rama’s devoted brother, with hands folded in a gesture of reverence, embodying loyalty and service. On the right, Bharata and Shatrughna, the other brothers of Lord Rama, stand with humility and devotion, holding their weapons as symbols of protection and responsibility. Hanuman, the ever-faithful devotee of Rama, kneels at their feet, hands folded in reverence, gazing at his Lord with deep devotion. His posture and expression exude devotion and humility, portraying his unwavering loyalty. The intricate details in the gold leaf work, typical of Tanjore art, are breathtaking, with the embellishments on the clothing, jewelry, and crowns shining in rich hues. The deep, vibrant colors of the attire and the ornate throne with its detailed arches further enhance the grandeur of this royal scene. The ornate frame surrounding the figures, decorated with traditional patterns and gold accents, adds to the overall opulence of the painting. Jayanthan’s attention to detail in facial expressions, posture, and ornamentation brings the divinity and sanctity of Ram Darbar to life in this stunning piece.
