About the Artwork +
This traditional Pichwai painting by the master artist Shehzad Ali Sherani, brings forth a mesmerizing portrayal of Shrinath ji, amidst the enchanting scene of Daan Leela. It is a subject in Pichwai, where Mount Govardhan is worshipped by devotees and offerings are made. At the heart of the composition stands Shrinathji adorned in resplendent attire with Mayur Pankh and Kadam tree, typical of the deity. He is flanked on either side by beautiful Gopies standing with pots, ready to make offerings. The priests standing with reverence are serving the deity. The presence of priests shows the act of Shreenathjo Darshan, seamlessly merged with the Daan Leela. A majestic canopy of forests and the vast landscape of Govardhan mountain inhabited by myriad animals and birds, stretch towards heaven. And on top of that, the golden glow of the rising sun casts a gleaming light on the divine spectacle below.
At the lower plain, the rows of lotus bloom and peacocks dance as Daan Leela scene of Krishna unfolds with playful Krishna mischievously taking the pots of offerings made by Gopies. Within thin floral borders lie several square boxes inhibiting scenes from Krishna Leela, each giving a glimpse into his divine quests. Overall, this composition is an ode to the timeless art of Pichwai that celebrates love and devotion in its purest form.
