About the Artwork +

Sindhe Chandu's leather puppetry masterpiece, "Sri Venkateshwara Kalyanam," unfolds a visual symphony of the sacred celestial union. The traditional art form of leather puppetry comes alive under Chandu's skilled hands, capturing the essence of this divine ceremony with intricate detailing and artistic finesse. In the portrayal of Sri Venkateshwara Kalyanam, Chandu's mastery in leather puppetry is evident. The intricate detailing of the celestial attire, the divine expressions on the characters' faces, and the dynamic postures all contribute to the storytelling prowess of this traditional art form. The use of vibrant colors and delicate lines on the leather canvas adds a rich and immersive quality to the puppetry scene.
Leather puppetry, an ancient form of storytelling, requires a unique set of traditional practices and skills. Chandu employs age-old techniques involving the use of specially treated leather. The leather is carefully shaped, carved, and colored to create articulated puppets that can convey a wide range of expressions and movements. Traditional puppetry skills, passed down through generations, come to life as each puppet becomes a conduit for the artist's narrative. Leather puppets are typically made from treated animal hides, ensuring durability and flexibility. Chandu's choice of this material aligns with the time-honored practices of leather puppetry, where the interplay of light and shadow on the leather surface adds a unique dimension to the storytelling experience. Sindhe Chandu's "Sri Venkateshwara Kalyanam" in leather puppetry stands as a testament to the enduring traditions and techniques of this art form, capturing the essence of the sacred union with cultural authenticity and artistic brilliance.
