About the Artwork +
Delve into the symbolic world of Mandana art, a traditional floor and wall painting from Rajasthan, where master artist Vidya Soni crafts the ethereal Goddess Lakshmi's Divine Chowk. With precise strokes of white khariya chalk against a warm terracotta canvas, Soni creates a geometric masterpiece, a sacred space inviting Lakshmi's blessings of prosperity and abundance. The Divine Chowk, a central motif in Mandana, acts as a symbolic threshold, welcoming the goddess into the home. The intricate geometric patterns, reminiscent of ancient yantras, create a sense of cosmic order and balance with interconnected squares and triangles, meticulously drawn to represent the harmonious interplay of energies. The prominent central design features a complex, interlaced geometric form, a powerful symbol of interconnectedness and cosmic unity. The surrounding motifs, including stylized floral elements and geometric shapes, are arranged with precision, enhancing the overall symmetry and balance of the composition. The striking contrast of white on terracotta underscores the sacredness of the depicted space, while the precise lines and symmetrical composition testify to the meticulous craftsmanship inherent in Mandana art, a tradition steeped in ritual. This Mandana artwork is more than just a decorative design; it's a spiritual invocation, a visual prayer for Lakshmi's presence. By creating the Divine Chowk, Vidya Soni establishes a sacred space, inviting the goddess to grace the viewer's home, ensuring prosperity and well-being. This piece underscores the vital role of the chowk in Mandana art, acting as a conduit for divine energy, and the enduring importance of Goddess Lakshmi in Hindu culture, where she is revered as the embodiment of wealth and auspiciousness.
