In this vibrant Kalighat work, artist Sonali Chitrakar offers a powerful and comprehensive depiction of Goddess Durga in her majestic form. Originating in 19th-century Kolkata near the Kalighat temple, this folk art style is renowned for its bold lines and rhythmic shading, traditionally blending sacred iconography with a dynamic, accessible aesthetic.

The composition centers on the commanding figure of the Goddess, standing tall with ten hands, each holding a different weapon or attribute symbolizing her supreme power—including a sword, axe, bow, and arrow. She is flanked by two attentive attendants, emphasizing her regal and divine status. Above her, the upper panel features Shiva, her celestial consort, who is flanked by two other divine couples, establishing the cosmic family hierarchy. Below that, three lions form a divine archcreating a protective canopy over the goddess.

The intricate border serves as a narrative frame, documenting the presence of her four children, each accompanied by their traditional mounts (vahanas) and shown with folded hands in a gesture of reverence: Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, accompanied by her owl; Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, identified by her swan, Kartikeya, the god of war, paired with his peacock and Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, accompanied by his mouse.

The outermost border is alive with rhythmic energy, portraying a series of devotees playing various musical instruments. This element celebrates the communal and festive spirit of the Durga Puja, inviting viewers into a world of shared devotion and cultural heritage. Through Sonali Chitrakar's masterly use of traditional shading and vibrant color, this masterpiece stands as a timeless reminder of the strength, harmony, and enduring legacy of the divine mother.

No, we currently sell artworks unframed (unless explicitly mentioned otherwise) and do not provide framing services.

Domestic Orders

All prices are inclusive of GST and applicable Indian taxes.

• We offer free shipping on orders above ₹1999 for all artworks, except Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri.
• A flat shipping rate of ₹499 applies to orders below ₹1999.

Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri

Shipping is charged on a per-kilogram basis, due to the delicate and bulky nature of these items.

International Orders

• A flat shipping charge of ₹4,000 applies to international artwork orders.
• Customs duties, taxes, or import charges in the buyer’s country are not included and must be borne by the buyer.
• Shipping rates for Lippan, Terracotta and Thikri artworks will be calculated based on weight.

Extra charges may be applicable for both domestic and international deliveries in the following cases:

• If the article requires additional packaging (such as a wooden crate) to ensure safe shipping due to its delicate nature.
• Custom-framed artworks.
• Artworks where shorter side exceeds 36 inches or Decor items with any side over 35 inches.
• If you request express shipping. Contact support to check availability.
• The order contains more than two different product types.
