About the Artwork +
In artist Apindra Swain's mesmerizing Pattachitra Painting, "The Tree of Life: A Divine Tapestry," the viewers are transported into the heart of Hindu mythology, where the Tree of Life, also known as Akshaya Vat, stands as an exquisite embodiment of the divine Trimurti - Lord Brahma, the creator; Lord Vishnu, the preserver; and Lord Shiva, the destroyer. This piece seamlessly weaves together the intricate threads of life and death, heaven and earth. Its roots delve deep into the subterranean realm, bridging the earthly plane with the underworld. On its sprawling branches, we find a breathtaking tapestry of flowers, leaves, and bird motifs, each symbolizing ethereal spirits dancing in harmony with nature. As the trunk rises towards the heavens, it breaks through the earthly confines, reminding the viewers of the unbreakable connection between the terrestrial and celestial realms. The upper branches, with their elegant curls and intertwining patterns, serve as a visual testament to our link with the divine above. Swain's Pattachitra work is a vivid portrayal of the interdependence of life on Earth, a harmonious dance between flora and fauna.
