About the Artwork +
Vasant Manubhai Chitara in the Mata Ni Pachedi artwork depicts goddess Sagat against a red background under an off-white mandap or pavilion. Goddess Sagat, also known as Sagun Mata or Sati Mata, is a significant and revered deity in the Mata Ni Pachedi tradition. She is often portrayed as a powerful and protective goddess. Sagat is believed to bring good fortune and safeguard devotees from harm. Her image is usually at the center of the artwork, signifying her central role in the devotees' lives. In the context of Mata Ni Pachedi, the red background represents the divine and intense energy of the goddess. The off-white mandap, or canopy, often serves as a sacred space for the goddess. The off-white color is symbolic of purity, tranquility, and spirituality. It creates a contrast with the vibrant red background, emphasizing the sacredness of the goddess's presence and the sense of peace and purity that she brings to the devotees' lives.
