March is the best month in Hong Kong for art aficionados - Asia Contemporary Art Show, Art Central, Art Basel, a number of gallery events , art walks - everything happens in March! We visited Art Central and here's a preview of our favourite artists , paintings and installations
Hom Nguyen , a self taught Vietnamese artist represented by galley A2Z Art - absolutely arresting work! Makes you realise just how much one can say with just lines and monochromes. One of these paintings is a depiction of his mothers emotions when she first moved to Paris.
Han Young Wook, a Korean Artist represented by Galerie Bhak. Such a surreal feeling looking at his work, he paints on aluminium and then scratches the surface of the aluminium to create such surreal effects - the hair in his paintings was actually glistening, almost calling out to you to touch the paintings and reassure the subject of the painting.
Hwang Seontae, a Korean artist represented by Gamo Gallery, beautiful lightbox creations - light falling in different corners of a room, strangely uplifting for the spirit. Taking a line here from Shine Gallery's description because it is so beautiful and so aptly captures the essence of this work " If these images express absence, they are also about the expectation of presence. There is a palpable sense of anticipation."
So there you have it, our favourite picks from Art Central, don't forget to tell us yours in the comments section!
